Hoggard defeated White Oak 46-30 in the varsity game in Jacksonville. The Vikings were tremendous on the defensive end. Zack Allen led the way with 11 points.

The JV team also won, defeating White Oak 57-17. Darius Plummer led Hoggard with 15 points.

About an hour and a half before tip-off on day two of the Coaches vs. Cancer Invitational when we take on defending NCISAA runner-up Greensboro Day School. We’ll update the blog after the game.

Logan Cain scored 18 points to lead Hoggard to a 59-51 win over Woodberry Forest in the first round of the Coaches vs. Cancer Invitational in Greensboro. More details on the website later.

While in Greensboro for the Coaches vs. Cancer Invitational, some members of the Viking basketball team take time during the day to take some tests before the holiday break.  The AP Calculus students were especially excited to have the opportunity to do some more math!

Tonight we take on Woodberry Forest at 7:00 in the opening game of the event!

The Vikings defeat the host Yellow Jackets in the first round of the Fort Mill Invitational in Fort Mill, SC. Hoggard will take on Box Hill Senior from Australia in tomorrow’s Championship Game at 3:30.

Stilman White stole a pass and made a layup at the buzzer to give Hoggard a 46-44 overtime win at Wakefield on Tuesday night. Logan Cain led the Vikings with 14 points.

The 2008-2009 basketball season finally gets underway tonight when we travel to Wakefield to take on the Wolverines.  Wakefield is 2-0 on the season with wins over Knightdale and Green Hope.  Our JV’s are playing tonight as well.

We will update the blog from the bus on the way home tonight if you want to check and see how things went!

The first week of practice means at least one thing … late nights!  It takes a while to get four teams through practice so we have been in the gym until 9:30 or 9:45 each night.  The guys are working hard getting ready for our first scrimmage this Saturday.  We play at Terry Sanford High School in Fayetteville and the schedule is listed below.

12:00 - vs. Jack Britt
2:00 - vs. Richlands
4:00 - vs. Terry Sanford
6:00 - vs. Athens Drive

We will be holding an open gym on Thursday from 6:30-8:00 in the Hoggard Gym.  But don’t just show up for the nights we play … come and get in shape too!  We will be conditioning on Wednesday night from 6:30-7:30 in the Gym as well.

Tryouts are only 34 days away!

School began today at Hoggard High School which meant the last “first day of school” for our eight returning senior players: Zack Allen, Logan Cain, Travis Smith, Brad Busby, Michael Byrd, Tyler Heffernan, Will Jacobs, and Will Keistler.

Brad, Logan, Michael, and Will Jacobs have already been hard at work on the football field while Zack, Travis, Tyler, and Will Keistler will get back to work in the gym next week when the dead period ends.
